This article is really useful! Specially because of its scheduling idea!
:-)
That was the book which caused the most stressful days with my last violin teacher, because of never being ready for those lessons even though I had practiced a lot. I think while he had been telling me the way to speed them up, but he had forgotten to say about the process of time and how to schedule which I had ever thougt it impossible to mention by the teacher.
I become upset of playing the violin because of his bad behaviour. He had just reminded me my problems angrily but never told me how to schedule my practices in order to remove the wrongs.

Now I can start again! :-)
God bless you!

Wow, what a great blog. I hope you keep writing!

Question on scales--I was just starting to learn the different positions when I had to stop taking lessons (money issues!) So when you say to practice this on one string, do you shift so the first finger is on the E-flat, then move your pinky up to play the final B-flat? Or do you shift so the first finger is on the F? (I hope that question makes sense, and that I've even named the notes correctly!)

I hadn't learned to practice scales on one string, only across the position, but I can see why this would be so necessary. As long as I can get the shift correct, that is!

Just a note to say that Finale Notepad 2010 is now out and looks to be an excellent update! :)

Thanks for this blog, I've just been reading through your most recent entries which I've learned a lot from, hoping to go back and read some of your older posts this week too.
